Freaked out Iggy!

Greenwicche Apr 27, 2004 02:00 PM

I dog-sat three dogs this past weekend. Two of them were small dogs and one was a white German Shepherd. Now, Sweetpea is used to seeing cats and dogs, large, medium and small...no problem. She's never shown signs of being upset, but the minute this big white dog walked by her cage she FREAKED! She ran (flew) all over her cage, bumping into the walls, and turning things over! I was stunned! I immediately shooed the dog out of the room and covered her cage with a blanket so she couldn't see out. She calmed down right away. I had to block off the room so the dog wouldn't go in there, but she would watch him as he walked past the door. I couldn't shut the door because it's still cold here in Colorado.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Was it the size or color of the dog that scared her? I'd appreciate any input.

Mabe its just some thing that triggered a natural instinct to run. Recently I tried to take a picture of Kiwi with my new (silver, by the way) digital camera. HE FREAKED OUT!!! HE RAN LITERALLY ON THE WALL!!! It totally freaked me out so he just cant have his pic taken... lol I guess i really didn't answer your question about why...lol

Hi there,
We adopted Joey at the age of 2; and from the very beginning he has seen my cat, JJ. He never had a fear of JJ at all. Now Joey was very small when we first got him and JJ is 26 pounds of fluffy cat, yet he showed no fear at all towards him. We are always around when the two are near each other since Joey will walk right up to JJ and think nothing of it and try and grab his fur.
About 1 year after getting Joey, a friend brought over her large Rhodesian Ridgeback dog. Joey saw him through his cage and made his body go completely flat and did not move an inch until the dog had left the house. I thought at first it was just the size difference that had scared him.
It is not just the size though, because my sister brought over her dog who was a shihtzu (smaller than my cat), and Joey freaked when he saw the dog from a distance and ran around in his room, like the devil himself was after him. The dog didn't even know the iguana was there, but the iguana had a natural fear of him.
I don't understand it, but this is what I observed.
Cheers,
Kally
