What you want is the grassland grazing mix, which is a mix of grasses and weeds. Not sure how much area you have to cover, but it's always a good idea to have some extra seed on hand so you can have some growing while the tort is munching on another area.

This is all they need to eat? Can they eat veggies? I mean this grass mix I have to grow right, what do I feed in the winter, I'm from the north? I am getting a new house by September and it will have a green house attached to it. But what can I feed for now? Thanks for the help

Check out www.sulcata-station.org. There's information there on diet and housing. Grasses and leafy weeds are best, but you can use some grocery produce if you need to, as well.

You're welcome. I'm fairly new to tortoises myself, so I know it's hard to find the right information sometimes. That website has some great links that will help you out.

How big is your set up? How big is your sulcata? Do you have any pic's I can see? What will you say will be a nice size cage to start with? How do you feed your sulcata, do you grow your own seed mix? How do you do it, do you have a green house?
Thanks
Charlie

I don't have a sulcata--don't have the space for one. I have a Hermann's and a marginated, both of which are mediterranean species and stay smaller than a sulcata. They are both yearlings, so for right now their enclosures are 2' x 3' melamine bookcases, which work really well (easy to clean, and nice and airy). I'm working on expanding, though. Outside, I have 6' x 6' pens with screened lids, and at this time of year, they're outside most of the day.

I feed about 99% weeds and flowers that I gather for them or grow myself (seed mix from turtlecafe.com)--dandelion, plantain, mallow, hawkbit, etc. Also mulberry and grape leaves, hibiscus flowers, rose petals, etc. My marginated loves flowers, and the Hermann's loves leaves, go figure. I do buy organic dandelion leaves at the grocery store every once in a while. The outside pens are planted with turtlecafe.com seed mix, and I also have some growing in a barrel. You can get seed trays from a nursery and plant those, and then rotate them for grazing inside. You can also feed grass clippings, as long as the grass is free from chemicals. Sorry I can't really help with greens from the store; I just don't buy much food for them. They like the weeds better, lol.

Hope this helps!

Hi Sohni

Thank you for your time and great help.
Will take some pic's of the new baby sulcata when he comes in. I made a nice size order from the Turtle Cafe and she will be around. She wanted me to let all you know that the message on her site is changed. I mean it's still up but she is not leaving.

Thanks again
Charlie
Any more information will be great.
