hey- i know nothing about either sory but i reken your makin an awesome choice for a birthday pressie- send us sum pics wen you get it!!
I've really only kept leopards, and I can give some pros/cons for them.
Pros:
Very tame
Excellent eaters
Hardy captives
Easy care
Cons:
Crickets get expensive!
After awhile I got a little bored with them (which is unfortunate) and eventually I gave them to a friend. If you are looking for an animal thats tame so you can show it to people, this is a very good choice.
Bearded dragons care is virtually the same, except that you may need to vary their diet more (mealworms, crickets, fruit?), use some UV lights (desert?) and they get much bigger than leopards (2 feet or so).

Ive only had the geckoes for a few days..I think dragons require a lot more care then geckos, for instance they need much higher heat and ALOT more crickets plus greens. With geckos all you need are mealworms and from what I hear you can give them a little fruit babyfood occasionally plus a lower heat in the enclosure. But dragons are more active in the day and seem to interact with me alot.. dont hide away like geckos so it depends on what you want. of course my geckos might be hiding because they are new and scared so that is just an opinion, although they are nocturnal so I dont think it will change much..Geckos are softer and easier to hold at first..I love my dragons because they have such cool personalities..I cant say that for my geckos as yet but who knows..Hope this helps a bit
that Beardies do need UVB and geckos dont which might be a biggie because the bulb and fixture can run around 30.00...Also Beardies do get quite a bit bigger but like I say they do interact alot more so that to me is a big plus..
