I have owned both, as well as some others. I truly enjoy the Beardies more than I did the Gecko's. If you have children then the Beardies would do good since they are strong once they reach 8 or 9 Inches. Just my opinion though. I am not an expert. Good luck in whichever you choose.

If you kill it, you better be willing to eat it!

I have both at the time. Both are very good pets, except the geckos are nocturnal, so they spend most of the day hiding. Beardies tend to have a more sociable personality and are a little tougher than the leopard gecko so if a child accidentally drops it, the beardie is less likely to get hurt. Both come in beautiful colors, but I would go with a beardie personally. But in the end, it is up to you. I suggest you go to a pet store and handle each and see what you think.

Pros & cons:
Both leopard geckos & bearded dragons make excellent pets. Leopard geckos are nocturnal(nighttime active), so you don't have to provide 14 hours daily of special lighting. They are also strictly carnovores(meat-eaters), so there's no greens & veggies to deal with.
Okay, bearded dragons tend to be higher maintenance, special heating, lighting, diet, & so on. However, beardies tend to tolerate frequent handling a lot better than geckos. You can actually have something more like a relationship between you & your pet.
The best advice I can give you, is to do A LOT of research on each one before making a choice. You'll need to make sure you have the proper set-up for it before bringing it home. Extra studying will also give you a better idea of what you're getting yourself into. Who's the best reptile vet in your area?Who'll take care of it while your on vacation? This is also something to consider.
Learn all you can before taking on a commitment. Both these lizards live for many, many years.

Bearded dragons also require larger habitats. Somethimg else you may want to consider. Do you have the space?
And also want to wish you a Happy Birthday!!
Let us know which one you decide on.
