Day 18 after pre-lay shed~ Finally!

JM May 13, 2003 11:33 AM

Finally today, she is laying eggs! I snapped off one pick when I found her laying the first egg at 6:00 this morning. I just checked again, looks like 8 eggs and still going at this point!

...you having a run of bad luck with a bunch of your hatchlings(was it last year?). A bunch of regurges, and maybe some deaths.
I suppose I remember because of all the Egyption deity names.
Just wondering how everything is now.
Congratulations as well on your new eggs.

That was me! I think it was the water, or some other environmental problem when I was living on Edwards Air Force Base in California. (I did try using bottled water, so it may have been something else) but all of those problems have stopped since I moved last summer.

It was a bad year, and I would have given up if not for all the support I got here, and from the breeder I purchased my original snakes from (Rich at Serpenco is really a great guy who encouraged me a lot). That first year I tried I lost~

Isis~ Milk Snake phase female Corn
Nefertiti~ Milk snake phase female Corn
Anubis~ Hypomelanistic Okeetee Male Corn
Osiris~ Butter Male corn
Imotep~ Hyposmelanistic Okeetee male Corn
Spider~ Grey banded male King
and two other un-named kings.

It was really very depressing, but things seem to be better now. I still have two of the original snakes (Ra and Banshee) that somehow survived that year, and I have many more snakes that are doing fine~

Ra~ Milk snake Phase Male Corn(Father of the clutch Hathore is laying in my post above)
Hathore~ Amel female Corn(Laying the eggs in the post above)
Banshee~ Hypomelanistic female corn Laid a clutch of 12 (6 slugs) on 4-13-03
Mr. Cleo~ Amel male corn (Tought he was a girl for 6 months, thats why his name was cleopatra!) Father of Banshee's clutch
Venus~ Amel Female corn
Izzy~ Abberant Cali King
Ms. BB~ Female normal Ball python
Marvin~ Male Normal Ball python (poss het)
Munch~ Male normal ball (poss het)
Zha-Zha~ Female normal Ball (poss het)
Donna~ Female normal Ball (poss het)
Fluffy~ Female normal Ball
Sassy ~ Female normal Ball (het)
Visa~ Male normal Ball
Anna~ Female normal Ball
Pricilla ~ Female normal Ball
Winter~ ?? normal Ball
Summer~ ??normal Ball
Spring~ ??normal Ball
Autumn~ ??normal Ball

An incubator with 6 (maybe 7) GOOD eggs from Banshee (X Mr. Cleo) at least 12 eggs (All look good so far) from Hathore (X Ra) that I plan to keep most of the babies, and I have cash in my pocket and empty rubbermaids for the IRBA coming to Pamona this weekend!

So~ things are much better now~ Your right, it is a wonderful world!

Glad to see all's well. I've also seen that you've changed your user name. Maybe that's why I didn't know you were the same person.
So youve gotten into balls now.
I was given one and dont really want it. Can you tell me what's the draw to ball pythons? Mine does nothing during the day but hide. I never see it unless I pull it out of its enclosure.

I have always used "JM" as my user name, you may be confused if you happened to catch a post in which I shared that JM is not my name, or my initials. My name is Cheryl. I use "JM" out of habit mostly. Long story, (you don't want to hear it) but basically my on-line handle has always been either JM (stands for JustMe) or Red Dragon(I have never used my Red Dragon name in relation to reptiles, but I may start too). If you saw a previous post in which I explained that you may have just become confused on what my name actually is. ~ It is confusing isn't it? Sorry!

As far as the ball pythons~ I actually see my ball pythons much more often than my corn snakes. Maybe your ball python is just shy, I don't know. I have always loved the heavy bodied Boids, but keeping them is just a bit out of my reach. (husband is not as facsinated by snakes as I am, and he would not help me handle a large boid) The Ball pythons have that heavy bodied look I love, but they stay much smaller and can be easily handled by one person. I just love their patterns too.

Actually~ It's just about all snakes I am facsinated with.....I tell people they are like beautiful exotic fish, that I can watch as much as I like, and occasionally take out and handle.

So~ now that I've told my life story basically~ Your turn.....do tell! How are you and your critters?
