i have one more question, ive heard that feeding ringnecks guppies will kil them, is this true?

Ok I can help here. Will Still with the baby albino ringneck, he got it in October, it first ate in or around November. He feeds it 1 guppy a week with a little bit of some kind of powder stuff to make it more healthy, it's been eating like that since then. I don't know how many people succeeded with feeding them fish, but I had a southern ringneck snake adult for like 3 months that I fed rosy reds, guppies, goldfish, anoles and tree frogs. I know of 3 people that have gotten ringnecks to eat fish. They most likely will cause death in the future, so I'd stick to worms, salamnders, lizards, frogs or snakes pending on the size, for hatchlings, small worms, small salamanders, ant eggs or smaller snakes such as newborn brown snakes.

With the green snakes, they may bite they may not. I have never found a Smooth green that bit me, but roughs are not shy of biting you. Ringnecks bite as well, just not as much.

have much experience with rough greens. I have never had one bite, and the only time on even opened its mouth was when I was taking pictures. Any snake can bite though. But roughs are not what you make them out to be.

i think i need to reword what i said about the biting, i know they all bite, just which one tends to bite less, i heard rough green are more likely to bite than smooth, but smooths are harder to keep, true? what other fairly small snakes would be a good choice? ive had snaked before, a ball. but that was awhile ago. any suggestions?

I was replying to Michael for the most part. Both species of greens are uninclined to bite. They rely mostly on their camouflage for protection. Smooths are harder to keep though. The roughs I have kept have done extremely well, especially if offered some of the native caterpillars. If you are looking for a small species that is a little more "out there," rosy boas rarely break 2 or 3 feet and can live in a 10-20 gallon tank. They are quite docile and feed well on rodents.

I have had a pair of rough greens for about a year now. The male is a little jumpy, but the female is very calm. Neither snake has ever acted interested in biting me. Also, I catch a few of rough greens every year and have never been bitten by them. However, two weeks ago, I would have said the same thing about eastern ribbons. I got plugged by a little guy I was moving out of the road.
Take it easy,
Bryan
