My Beardie Died Why

duneshark Apr 27, 2004 08:42 PM

My beardie died this morning.I Woke up this morning and he was seizuring violently I didnt know what to do so I though maybe he was impacted I put him in warm water but it didnt help. He was eating good at least I think so, he was eating aroung 4-7 crickets a day and veggies. I dust the crickets everytime he eats and I mist his head everynight and he drinks. He ate 4 crickets around 3:00 Pm when I shut off his lights he was on his rock basking looking fine. His temps were perfect I purchased a infared temp gage. basking side 106-115 and cool side 76-80. I checked him before I went to bed and he was sleeping fine. I have had him 2 weeks any one know why he died.

how old was he and where did you get him? How big was he and what size crix were you feeding?

could be a variety of things and if you only had him 2 weeks with good husbandry like you did, my first impression is you need to probably look at other factors.

That SUCKS!!!

:--(

as was said it may have been from several possible causes.
if the body is intact and you want to know more find a vet that treats reptiles and see what they say...

they could do a basic "Necropsy" to check the bd's organs for some things and run some basic tests on blood and some tissues

you many have had a sick bd that took some time to show how ill it was... or he might have ingested a toxic substance.

hard to say.... unless tests are done...

So sorry to hear about your Beardie....I will say a prayer for him and you...I hope this doesn't stop you from enjoying another beardie. They are so worth it.

Thanks for the insight. I really dont know what happened, I bought about 4 dozen crickets and am keeping them in a cricket keeper most of them were just small enouph.I alway watched him eat and it seemed like he had no problem eating them. I am almost sure he was still to small he was about 6 inches i got him from an all reptile store her in Utah. I am going to buy from a know breeeder next time and go with 8 incher.

Hi
what substrate doe you use?
some times some type of sand can be dangerous ,like calsisand .
r even bark can also be eaten and then they can be impacted.
