I haven't really been into corn snakes much, but I know they're pretty rare in my specific town. I've seen probably 4 (1 of which was DOR) in the last 24 years here. I caught a small one, probably 14"-16" long last night, and it really seems like it may not be a normal phase. Maybe I'm wrong.
It has the classic head/markings, with a little bit of orange on the top part. It's got dark red or brownish blotches, grey in-between, and there is an orange tint, visible about halfway along its body on the top part, between the red/brown blotches (meaning that it doesn't seem to touch the blotches, only in between).
The orange coloration seems to start at the head and then slowly disappears as it goes down the body.
I've compared it to a lot of miami phase corns, even though I'm probably way too far north for that phase, as well as what they seem to call "normal corns" but none seem to look exactly like this.
Could this be just what some hatchlings look like, before they gain their adult coloration, or could it be an integrades with a grey or yellow rat snake, or maybe a hypo?
This was caught in north-central Florida btw, and the few adults from here I've seen really don't look like this one. Any help is appreciated.
