Snake Rack

moclab Apr 28, 2004 01:17 AM

I need some opinions about an appropriate and maintainable rack(s) to keep about 4 or 5 snakes in. I will only be housing Corn, Milk and King snakes. I want something that I can see the snakes in, so the plastic bin thing is out. I saw a picture of a rack that was modified from a barrister bookcase from Wal-mart and was wondering if that is a good idea. Building a rack is probably beyond what I am able to do at the moment (not having any power tools). Right now, I have multiple aquariums but that takes up too much room.

Any Ideas

Modifying those barrister bookcases is possible but can take a bit of work, especially for species such as milksnakes that are very good escape artists. And you'll still need tools.

I would build a lidless rack around the cambro polycarbonate food storage boxes. They are perfectly clear and extremely durable.

You could use them with lids on a bookshelf of some sort until you have the means to build a rack. You can have the material pre-cut for you by a cabinet shop and you would only have to assemble the rack with minimal tools.

The 9" tall boxes are a nice comprimise between viewability and saving space.

Here's one of many links on the Cambro boxes.
