One more time, ackie question...

reps-r-us Apr 28, 2004 09:25 AM

I have heard so many differing opinions now...Many people on other forums and people that have seen my ackies in person have said ,they are red ackies, no doubt.

Yet there are a couple people online, that say my ackies are yellow.

Personally, it doesn't matter to me, as I like both, I would simply like to know out of curiosity...

When I compare many pics of red and yellow hatchlings, I do have to say mine look like reds...so what makes anyone think or what are the identifying features on mine that would point to yellow ackies?

Here are once again pictures for comparing...

The "confirmed red and yellow" ackie pics are NOT mine, and if the owner of the pictures would like me to remove them, I will do so immediately.

Here is MY ackie...

here is a confirmed RED ackie, albeit older then mine in this pic

here are some young confirmed YELLOW ackies, bout the same age as mine...

thank you for any help and education

I hear what you are saying...

They are the most fun little animals regardless of WHAT color ackies they are...

Its just that after hearing so many opinions and looking at so many pictures, I'm getting curious as to WHAT mine are and WHAT characteristics give them away...

They do not really look like any "yellow" hatchlings I have seen...??

Oh well, I guess I can take it with a grain of salt...

A red has a pattern on its head and neck, a red has black spots in the center of the round light spots over its body. A yellow varies from black, brown, reddish, yellow etc has no black spots in the larger spots, no pattern on the neck or head. The difference is species V. acanthurus (Red), V. Brachyurus (Yellow). They are otherwise similar and the main difference is price as far as what you might have paid for.
This is the side view of my male reds head.
