location-specific aggression?

atomic Apr 28, 2004 09:54 AM

Hi everyone,

This is something I've been wondering about for a while, and just thought I'd run it by you all to see if you've experienced anything similar.

My 2 year old male ig, Grass, is normally a total sweetheart. Very mellow, loves to be petted, handles well. He's free-roaming during the days, and the exception to his sweetness comes whenever he basks on the top of his enclosure. When he's up there he's about eye level with me (I'm 5"4') and will hiss maniacally if I get within a foot of him. Now granted, this doesn't keep me from picking him up at bath or nailtrim or medicine-time -- I'm still the alpha But why just this one spot?

Any ideas on this? Thanks much,

atomic (human) & grass (ig)

this is the area he has claimed as HIS territory and if he is only 2, then the fun is only beginning...he will get more territorial as years go on during his breeding seasons....of course how long it ends is different from iguana to iguana...good luck...and keep up that alpha attitude.....lyn
