Thinking on getting a frog are they hard to care for?

Rayquaza Apr 28, 2004 10:04 AM

perhaps a toad would be easier. Which kind is the best for a beginner. Do they need alot of room? I may not get one if they require too much care or are too fragile. Thanks for the help..

Fire belly toads are a great starter pet. they are for the most part very tame. Very hardy. always axious to eat. and they are easily cared for. Frogs are a bit more fragile. but if you do choose to get a frog start out with an american green.. they are really easy to care for.

which one sounds the coolest and do they croak at night? I dont sleep well and I love to listen to the crickets chirp in my Turantula tank. I think it would be great to listen to the frogs or toads too...Thanks

as of right now none of my frogs make a peeop. mainly because they are still babies. However the toads are relitivly quiet. If you put two toads of diffrent original tanks they will argue a bit and they can get a bit loud. they make a kind of chirpy caw type sound. and then a long vibraty chirp.

I kept some gray's tree frogs last year over the summer, I didnt get croaking, except for one night. The croak I heard was pretty darn loud. If you live around any spring peepers, open your windows at night! I do, and it sure is nice to listen too. They're loud enough to hear faintly with the windows closed, but alot easier to hear them with them open. Hole bunch of different calls can be heard. I have been meaning to get a CD or something to help me identify the calls of each frog.

Goodluck!

If you are looking for an easy to take of frog that doesn't require a lot of room then you should get a pacman frog. They are very hardy and not very demanding. Just to warn you, they do have trememdous appetites. I have about 13 of them and the males croak loud, unbeleivably loud. They will wake you up a couple times a night, even if they are in a different room than the one you're sleeping in.
