ok, here we go again,,, I'm liking the panther chameleons but I'd like to know what the difference is between NosyBe/Ambanja/Ambilobe/Sambava/Tamatave,,,, is it a colour morph thing? and are their personalities similar? Thanks again, L.

All the panthers you mentioned are differentiated by locale. The main difference being their color. Personality wise, they are all about the same. Within each locale you'll have both mean and nice chameleons. I've noticed that most males will tend to mellow out as they age. But there are also those that will be mean for the rest of their life. The younger panthers can be quite fiesty. If you are looking for a panther chameleon, choose the locale/color that appleals to you most. You may find it difficult shopping by personality. Good Luck!

The colors depend on where in Madagascar the chameleon originated. Personalities are an individual thing, not a species thing.
Hope this helps,

Besides color, the heads of different locales seem to differ a little bit. Nosy Bes and Ambanjas seem to have thinner longer heads, and Tamataves and Sambavas heads seem to be shorter and wider. The tips of their noses are slightly different also, but not enough to make a decision on. Go for color, both relaxed color and "display" coloration. They will be in their relaxed color 99.5 percent of their lives, which is why I think Nosy Bes, Ambanjas and Sambavas are great looking as display animals. Sambavas are also great in display coloration and often are very bright when sleeping. Here's a link to a page showing a few examples of coloratons, and an explanation of coloration types in most locales:

Good luck with your search!

I agree with tyler 100%, choose an animal that has colors you like relaxed, 99% of the pictures you see on the photo page and for sale are the animals excited you wont see those colors all the time.

My personal favorite are my red tamatave and blue bar ambilobe, they have amazing color all the time, it just gets better when they are excited. this is my tamatave relaxed!

Nope, I'm from Vegas born and raised. I spent 2 years in northern Utah playing around in college, but besides that, been here all my life.
