What is she waiting for?

koreth Apr 28, 2004 11:15 AM

It's been over two weeks since I noticed Alexandra digging around in her egg-laying area. She stopped doing that after a few days. And now she's just sitting around looking fat, though her appetite is way down for the past couple weeks and she's looking less fat by the day.

How long do they typically wait after starting to dig before they lay their eggs? Is it typical for them to dig a little bit, then stop? Whenever I noticed she'd been digging, I sifted through the sand to make sure there weren't any eggs in there, which had the side effect of undoing her digging. Maybe I did that enough times that she got discouraged and gave up?

Or, more likely, I'm just too impatient!

It is normal for females to dig around alittle then stop before digging more. She is probably just scouting out the area. You'll know when she has laid because she will be very thin and usually caked with dirt on her head.
