OK, Jiffypop and others...follow-up on Beanie

Linda G Apr 28, 2004 12:52 PM

Hi everyone,

I am still not syringe feeding and here is how she is
doing.

I made the pieces smaller as Jiffypop recommeded.
Starting after my last post
Wed 28 pieces
Thur 24 pieces
Fri 38
Sat 24
Sun 14 ([bleep]y today?) shedding
Mon 52
Tues 33
Wed 51
Thur 42
Fri 45

I believe most of these portions do not equal a large leaf.
These pieces had chopped up veggies, squash, etc which
she seems to be eating a little of.

No weight loss.
She continues to shed one right after the other. Her poops
are infrequent. She was pretty much that way at adoption.

Do you think this is normal for her? Should I continue?

Linda

Wow, thats great!! Sounds like she's finally beginning to come around on her own, I'd keep it up if I were you, esp if she is still shedding and maintaining her body condition. Tempest didn't eat much for the longest time, he still can be a bit fussy about new foods but it took ages for him to learn that what was on the plate was really good eating. Even now, he doesn't poop every day either, but his bloodwork stays good and he looks good, so I just don't worry too much. Sounds like Beanie has made some real progress, congrats

Linda, as long as Beanie is maintaining her weight I would continue as you are doing. With the onset of nicer weather here I've seen appetites increase and hopefully, as it continues to get warmer, Beanie's appetite will improve also. Try making the pieces of food about 1/2 the size of her head now. Throw a few pieces of wet whole wheat bread or plain cooked pasta into the mix. Also, have you tried giving her any probiotics, like Nutribac or Acidophiliz? I'm wondering if one of those might jump-start more appetite?
I have this vision of you counting each little piece of food! I've got to commend your dedication. I wish all iguana owners were as committed.

goes on her plate and everything at the end of the day.
My husband thinks I am crazy

I have not tried either of these things you mentioned.
Where can I get them? Petstore or Vet?

Thanks and I will increase the food pieces again.

Linda
