I have a 30 gallon tank and am thinking about RETFs

skeletor121 Apr 28, 2004 03:05 PM

I have a 30 gallon aquarium that is begging me to start up a vivarium. I am thinking of housing like 60 or so RETF's in there, what do you all think?
Ok, I'm just kiding aobut the 60 RETF's, I'm really thinkig about 2 in there.
Can any other animals live in there and not cause each other to die? I have read that keeping different species of frogs in there is a bad idea becuase they can either eat each other or cause each other to die due to poisons. Are there any lizards or other amphibians (newts/salamanders) that could safely live together in there?
Does anyone have any pics of their RETF setups? I am not in any rush on getting the frogs. I still need to try to talk my wife into letting me do this. I figure if I get all the info I need first, and decide it is a good idea to take this project on, then talk to her.

For cool terrarium ideas, go to www.amphibiancare.com. Devin doesn't have pics of red eyes, but his dart frog tanks are something to consider.

Red eyes should only be kept with other red eyes if wild caught. Make sure you have a moonglow bulb to see the animals at night, it will make it easier to feed them too.

If you have captive bred ones, you can potentially keep large tinctorius dart frogs (just make sure they are big if the RETFs are !!!!) However, dart frogs need fruit flies, and require more floor area. A much better consideration are tiger leg tree frogs. www.monkeyfrogs.com has captive bred ones. Good luck!
