Adding a new Tiger Sal......

nikovich Apr 28, 2004 03:56 PM

I've had my Tiger for almost a year now, caught from a larva found in a dugout behind my Wife's grandpas farm.
I"m hoping to catch another this June for a companion to my exisisting Sal fro mthe same place, as there were dozens of the guys, and by all accounts they have been breeding there for decades.
My question is, my Salamander is an aggressive little bugger who will snap at anything that goes near him , fingers and noses are the most at risk Although at times he can be quite placid.
Is adding a second Salamamder a wise thing to do , and will it be harmed by my ever hungry 1 year old ?

The more space and hide spots you give them the better they will handle being together. And don't forget the food. It seems like all Tigers are forever hungry. You can also opt for the new upcoming sallie to get to the same adult size as the one yr. old. It shouldn't take long at all.

I added two to a set up with one older tiger that I had had for some years. For a week the two new ones hid underground. It all seemed fine, till one day I came in and discovered that one of them had taken a chunk out of the underside of one of the new sallies, it was dead within a day. I had never witnessed any real aggression between them, so I was quite taken aback. So I would be more cautious now....
