Lazy gecko ?

Mizar 21 Apr 28, 2004 03:56 PM

My gecko spend all his time hiding in his hide box, he come out in the evening to hide somewhere else his belly glued to the warm spot of the heat pad. he come out only a few minutes to catch some crix. Is he lazy ? or just shy ? Anyway, he eat about 3 to 5 medium crix every day, is this enough ? (these crix are about 3/4 inch). I'm beginning to think that he will spend the rest of his day in hiding...lol...i have never handle him yet. Should i break the ice or leave him be for a few week again ? So much questions

1)leos are nocturnal so unless you are viewing them during the night you probably wont see them move at all.
2)leos are pretty sedentary and usually only are very active when housed with others.
3)the best way to tell if he/she is eating enough is if it eats until it wont eat anymore. Except for adult males and non breeding females a 2-3 times a week feeding pattern is good for keeping weight at healthy levels.
4)if he/she is only staying on the heat pad then you need to check your temps better. Because they will usually change hides several times a day. That is why i think using a single heat pad on a leo tank is useless unless your room temps are like 75-80 degrees. As it usually creates 1/2 the tank very hot and 1/2 cold. How are you measuring the temps? what are the temps?

during the day, i use a heat lamp heatpad, the temp are 77 coldest to 91 hottest. I use different kind of thermometer and have a variation of 2 degree. At night i have only the heat pad.
Should i consider adding a light for the night too ?

sounds odd. do you feed every day? because if you do he/she might be digesting all day then active at night.
