hybino questions....

lilroach56 Apr 28, 2004 04:27 PM

I know there is a hybino thread below but it doesn't answer my questions. How can there be such a thing as a "hypo-albino" if hypo=hypo-melanistic and albino=having no melanism wouldn't ALL albinos be "hypo" because they not only have reduced melanism but none at all? or is hybino just the term for an albino that has no brown/tan/purple coloring? if it was then wouldn't almost all tang albinos be hypos?

Did you read my post? The white/tan/purple replaces the Black. It don't have to be Tangerine and many people start out with some low grade hypo and slective breed them then introduce the Nice ones into it. Like A&M Gecko did not start out with Hypo Tangerines they slectivebred out of it to be reducing the white/tan/purple that replaces the Black melain.

yes i did read your post. But you didn't really answer my questions. If a "hybino" is an "albino" that has no brown/tan/purple coloring then wouldn't all normal albinos not be albinos? becuase isn't an albino naturally hypomelanistic? how can something be hypo-melanistic and albino at the same time?

Remember that the word "hypo" means reduced or lacking, so when I think of the word "hypo" in leopard geckos I think of reduced or lacking pigment (melanin). Since albinos do not have melanin in their skin, those areas that are usually black are white, pink, tan, brown, mauve, etc... but not black. These darker areas usually fade with time, and the more yellow coloration will take over somewhat. Hypo-Albinos, or Hybinos have less of the darker coloration and more of the yellow. In the case of a tangerine hybino, they have more orange coloration where the yellow would normally be.

Yes, in this case it means "lacking the other color besides yellow or orange"... LOL!!! I know it's hard to keep up with all the terms for these new morphs. Heck, even I can't keep up with it.
