Best antibiotic?

GaryNH Apr 28, 2004 05:18 PM

I have kept two ACFs for about a year and a half now. One appears to have injured the side of his face a while back. It's swollen and infected looking. I've tried salt, Karacyn and Tetracyclin in the main tank with no success. I'm going to try isolating him for a few days and would like suggestions for the best treatment plan. A good, powerful broad spectrum antibiotic recommendation would be a help. Should I use in conjunction with salt? Temperature change?

Thanks in advance!

Gary

That can be difficult. I would take him to the vet ASAP. I have done this before when I vaccinated my clawed frogs 4 years ago for Rhabdias nemetode worms. Injections of ivermectin. Get your veternarian to check him out and maybe a sample of the infection. Clawed frogs are pretty tough frogs, and if you give them proper treatment, they can recover pretty fast.

Also, at www.xenopus.com, they have a wonderful product that introduces bacteria that will out compete aeronomas and pseudonomas, the causers of red leg. But that will not do much now, so I would call and make an appointment and get him to the vet ASAP in a thermos.
