Help! Problems with Heating tank

Anchic Apr 28, 2004 07:23 PM

More to the point, I am having HUGE problems keeping a constant temp in the tank.

The temps keep fluctuating anywhere from 77f to 94f in the hot spot and at times upto 80 in the cool spot.

This is our first snake, 18mth old male Hondo and I am desperate to keep him healthy and comfortable and the temp fluctuations are making me nervous.

Any suggestions to help keep the tank constant?

Thanks tons!

I suggest getting a thermostat. Just stick the probe on the hot side of the tank, set the temp desired, and the thermostat will regulate it. I have them for both my snakes, and boy do they save me from alot of worry.

Thanks for the advise. That is what we are going to do. It seemed so simple silly me. Heating pad, heating lamp, 2 thermostats to check the temps (one for the cool and one for the hot) .....ahhh...to live and learn

What are you heating the tank with?
When are the temps fluxuating?

I am using an under tank heating pad, the one that adheres to the bottom of the tank and a 60 watt reptile light.

It's a 35 gallon tank. If I turn off the light it's too cool, I turn it on it's to hot. This is mainly during the day. So I have spent that last week constantly checking the temp and standing by to adjust it manually. My husband is going to go out looking for a heating system we can set the temps because this really is not working.

It's turning out that it's one thing to read about it and know what it's supposed to be at, another to actually achieve it

Thanks for the suggestions so far.
