small beardy

matt16 Apr 28, 2004 08:19 PM

hey i bought a baby dragon in late september. so that makes it about 7 months old and he is still only 12'' long and he wont eat any vegitables. i have tried everything from crushing the vegies to just leaving them there to getting him mad and putting them in his mouth he ate them then but only a little bit. his cage never gets colder than about 80 and he has a hot spot that is about 90 or more and he gets pl;enty of uvb. so my question is why is he so small and not eating any vegitables still.

basking should be 105-115F. What type of veggies? how big a cage? what does he eat? size is variable depending upon husbandry and bloodline.

he has a 20 gallon long tank. he eats tons of crix and superworms. silkworms and big green tomatoe worms every once and wile. ive tried tons of different kinds of vegitables everything from squash to cabbage potatoes green onions pepper cucumber red letuce bruselsprouts and other things he just wouldnt eat any of them. but he does eat about 20 crix a day. I bought him from a placi in oceanside called reptile haven when he was about 2 weeks old. any info to help would be great.

I would definately put him in a bigger enclosure, 40 gallon breeder or larger. try hand feeding him and see if that helps too. movement attracts them. 20 crix a day (depending on the size, should be getting halves or 3/4s) is not really a lot. if his diet stays crix you should get the t-rex cricket dust to make them more nutritious, its more than just calcium. You could also try dusting the salad and puting some worms in it that way the salad and the live food have the same smell and he might get to taste some of the salad and start eating.

I'd try mustard greens, turnip greens, and collard greens. Offer the veggies in the morning after he has a chance to warm up, and don't give any insects until the evening.
