Yes, the risk presents itself greatly when the animal is stressed or kept at low temperatures.
Can BTS catch a human cold?
Possibly, but highly unlikely. Colds are caused by viruses and unlike Bacteria (Although there are exceptions) individaul Viral species tend to stick with the same Vertebrate class or are even species specific. As we know from AIDS, SARS, etc., They can jump, Species, genuses, families, and even classes.
It is always a good idea to practice preventive maintenance, proper sterilization before and after handling, cleaning and feeding. If one is sick and no one else is available to 'do the chores', wear a mask for extra security.
