Here is my Mali Spike. He is awesome! Any thoughts on how I can get him to gain more weight? He eats, a lot... I need to buy a scale... Where can I buy one of those?

Looks like Spike is a pretty happy uro . Also cute dog!!!!

I have one named Spike too...altho mine is a female..lol (didn't know it at the time..she was my first one). oh well..she likes her name anyhow.

I don't really know how to tell if Spike is a female or male... I saw pics posted on the site and thought that Spike is a he... Then I saw another set of pics and thought Spike was a she... And now I am back to thinking Spike is a he...
Oh well, Spike is awesome anyway!

He sure is such a ham! I am a pet groomer so I get to see alot of shihtzu's...very nice breed.

I'll have to check to see if I still have any pics of my uros. If not, have to upload some! Seems to me, that I tried to upload some one time, and it only let me do like 1 pic and said my free thing was used up..sigh So I never did any more.
Only one I have right now in the gallery is my Iguana.

Hey Lisa,

I'm not sure that spike HAS to gain weight. If I remember correctly, he was with us last time I was on the forum, so I doubt he's struggling. Another indication I notice from your picture, is that, if you follow the "ridge" of his spine down into the tail, you'll notice that, at the top of his tail, the ridge disasppears. The tail's cross section is pretty round. This a good indicator that he's got a fari amount of fat stored up. When I got RoxyIII from a reputable source, I thought she was really thin. They said they picked her out due to the fact she was one of the fattest ones. When I took her out, there was a definate ridge all the way down through her tail. Anyway,
The scale, I got one at a grocery store for about $7. It's digital and goes from ounces to grams, as well as zero capability for when you put that big tupperware on top then your uro inside.

This definitely helps. I wasn't sure how to tell if he was under weight. Like I said, I don't have a scale so I haven't been weighing him but I wasn't worried until someone said that their uro was under weight... It just got me thinking. Thanks for telling me what to look for. It was definitely a huge help!
