Pictures of Herman my Leopard Tort

princesslisa88 Apr 28, 2004 08:48 PM

Here is a pic of Herman. He has a bit of pyramiding. I bought him from a pet store. I love him to bits! He's warming up to me and it's great.

Here's the pyramiding. This is a better shot.

Congratulations! He is very cute!
And with a good diet the little bit of pyramiding now will be a lot less obvious as he is growing.
Hope you and Herman will spend many great years together!

I thought that leopards had this "pyramiding" as natural? So there is not supposed any humping at the highest point of their shell? Just curious?

I think they tend to have the tendency to have some but not a lot. I started questioning whether he was being given the proper diet when I saw pictures of Kim's leopards (Kim from the turtlecafe.com). Here is a link to her pictures. Her babies don't have pyramiding at all. Very smooth appearing shells...

Leopard torts' shells should be smooth but Herman's is not bad, a good diet will help. Pyramiding in Stars & Radiated torts are natural.

Thank you. I feel much better about it. It just gives him more character! haha He has a much better diet now. He leaves hardly any leftovers! The pet store just had them eating romaine lettuce and they kept them on rabbit pellets (which I heard could cause pyramiding if consumed). I didn't know better at the time but I made sure that he started eating good foods and I tossed the rabbit pellet substrate in the trash.
