What do I use to filter the water in my pond area?

ex_action_figure Apr 28, 2004 11:15 PM

When I set up my little water area in my dart frog tank what do you think I should use to filter the water?
should I do water changes?
should I heat the water?
what type of water should I use to fill the pond and water the plants?
thanks
-Matt

also is it necessary to aerate the water with an air stone? I have seen people do it but I was not sure why.

Hi Matt,

It depends on how large the water area is. If it's just a few gallons you shouldn't have to worry about filtration. Infact, even if you have a larger pond you probably don't need to filter it. A filter simply removes debree and circulates the water. If you do frequent water changes (half of the water once every week or so) it shouldn't be required. Dart frogs rarely venture into water and generally ponds are just for your viewing pleasure rather than benneficial for the frogs. If you want to filter the water you could use a small submersible filter such as a Fluval or Duetto. Good luck,
