I finally got a copy of Jan. Reptiles. I have a ?. Did your brood size increase with future breedings? Or have you even bred her again? I heard that you shouldn't breed anacondas back to back each year because of the tremendous strain on the female.(weight loss)
Could we get a follow up to the article? Subsequent breedings etc.
Thanks
Arik

Arik,
I have not bred the female in the Reptiles Magazine article again. She is not a strong feeder on rabbits and will take a few years before I would try to breed her again. The female that produced last November feeds very strongly on rabbits however. You are correct in that green anacondas should not be bred every year as the stress would be quite high. It is highly possible that most greens would not even ovulate every year. This would be especially true of the larger females as it would take longer for them to replace lost energy reserves as compared to smaller individuals. Young females could be bred every two years if fed well, and larger females would probably breed on a 3 year cycle. A lot depends on how well they feed and how efficiently they replace the lost body weight.
I am planning on writing an article in the near future on these two breeding events, the raising of neonate greens, and also cover growth rates of green anacondas in captivity. Thanks,

Kelly
