enclosure question, need some suggesations please

rinoa05_1987 Apr 29, 2004 02:29 PM

well i have two questions actually. first off i use paper towel as a subsrate and i am currently using rock to keep the crickets from getting under the paper but now they crawl and hide under the rocks. i was wondering if anyone here knew of another alternative or if there small flat rocks that i can place in the tank as opposed to the rocks i have now. my other question is what should i put into isis' tank so she can climb more. she is always on her cocnut nut its kind of small and i'd like to give her something more to climb on but not exactly sure of what i should do. thanks for any suggestions.

Well its true you just take a look; the cover sometimes makes the book; and the judges did they ever ask to read between your lines; and your cage at the human zoo they all stop to look at you; next year what will you do when you have been forgotten -Miss America (a song by styx)

You can tape the ends of the paper towel to the side of the tank so nothing can get behind them. Tap is great for any cricket problems. I tape the side of my crix cage because they can't climb out on it. All bait shops do this.

As for another climbing thing, there are tons of rocks and hides at pet stores. Or you can use a home made one or something that is just laying around. Like a little basket or box.

Hope I helped.

If you have any artisitc talent or at least creative you could create your own climbing space for your gecko. It is simple to do. Just go to lowes or home depot and buy some polystyrene. Cut it into the shapes that you wish such as flat slate rocks and glue them together with silicone or aqaurium glue. After you have them all made you cover the whole thing with tile grout and use and adhesive to harden it. There are many place on the internet where there are more in depth instructions. Search the terrerium photo gallery here and you can find a few. Also someone just posted not to long ago pictures of their creation for their gecko to climb on. Well good luck.

Forgot to answer the first part of your question. An easy solution to your prob with the crickets is just to switch to tile as the substrate. It is perfectly safe and looks 20 times better than paper towel. You will have no trouble with roaming crickets if you measure the dimensions of your cage and then go to lowes or home depot to have them cut it to the perfect size for you. Tiles can cost from under a dollar to over 5 but most are within the 1-3 range and there are many choices to choose from. Good luck
