Thinking of buying a 5 lot of Ghana Balls, any advice?

zhenchok Apr 29, 2004 02:37 PM

Hi, I found a local reptile breeder who is selling a 5 lot of Ghana balls shipped for $100. It seems like a good deal, he is going to feed them twice before shipping them. But, I wish I could cherry pick them for my prefferences. Has anyone bought balls this way? I guess im more woried about getting some "ugly" looking normals. Any experiences with buying this way before? Perhaps anyone knows someone else to recomend. Thanks, Dave.

1) If he's local then why do they have to be shipped?

2) I won't get into the CH vs CB thing, but I'm sure someone will.

3) As a matter of opinion ... if they are all normals, I can't recall ever seeing an "ugly" normal ... they all look nice and diverse to me.

I'm assuming you're thinking of breeding them and that's why you're considering WC? Sorry if I'm wrong. Either way, this recent post may be of interest to you:

Depends on who you go with. I deal with both c.b.b. and wild caught animals. Of course c.b.b. is better because you don't have to deal with any of the crap that comes with wild caught animals. Although these are w.c. baby imports and usually don't carry near the load of parasites that adults carry. sometimes they have None at all. If your going to buy c.h. which is what they actually are I remember reading something about they have to release 2 for every 1 baby that comes over or something like that. Anyways Go with Ben seigals. He's got some of the nicest you'll ever see/find. Good luck

These are Captive bread hatchlings that are free of parasites and will be fed twice. The reason I'm having them shipped is because the guys lives around 3 hours away from me, I'd rather just pay for shipping. Thanks, Dave.

Sorry for the spelling mistakes in the previous post. I took this from the guys website.

"captive hatched/farmed baby ball pythons, These are strong healthy babies that WILL NOT need to be de-parasitized externally or internally."

these are not captive bred balls. They are from a wild pregnant female that was kept until she laid the eggs. Im not sure if they can have parasites or not straight out of the shell. Does anyone know if that is possible? Anyway, Ive puchased some from shows and have not really had any problems with them. Good luck. EP

Yes parasites can Carry over from the female. Anything internal could also be carried over. I don't believe there are any w.c. babies comming in anymore. I think they are all Farmed c.h. then shipped over. Of course why 100's or 1000's of snakes are sitting at an importers they could pick up some parasites as I've seen it before.
