Blister Disease?

bethersnakes Apr 29, 2004 06:46 PM

My ball python is in the middle of shedding, and this time around he isn't doing so good. I took him out to help get his eye caps off, and I noticed there were two wounds on his belly, which is still pink in places.
About a week to two weeks ago the cage got really damp. As soon as I noticed I got him out and cleaned the cage.
I read about blister disease and was wondering if that is what it is.
Questions:
1) Is it blister disease, and if it isn't, what is it?
2) what should I do with the two wounds,
3) Is it a possibe that the wounds/disease is fatal?
3) Is there a way to prevent this next time?

Please help me with this.
~Beth

Without seeing it and all it would be hard to say...Yes, it is blister. If it were me I would dab it with some betadine and then with some neosporin cream (not ointment) Do this every day for a week. Unless, of course if it got worse. Then yes, go to a vet. It is possible for skin diseases to go systemic and therefore serious to fatal.
Prevention is keeping the cage dry and CLEAN.
For sheds and humidity I would set him up with a humid hide and don't damp down the whole cage.
