Babies?????

serpentguy Apr 29, 2004 09:33 PM

I'm postivie that my female BRB is gravid. I'm just wondernig what the babies are gonna loook like? My female is a red phase and the male an orange phase. Are the babies going to be a mix of those, some red and some orange, all red, all orange, etc....? Will the babies not look good from parents w/ different phases?

Ron,
. When they are first born they will be pale and pinkish looking. They will get much darker over the first week or two. You will probably have a great deal of variation in the color of the babies as they grow. Generally pretty parents produce pretty babies but I have seen so much variation in babies from the same litter that I just about have given up trying to predict how babies will look. Litters from parents that are different looking (compared to each other) are likely to have more variation than litters from similar parents, but I do not think they are more or less likely to be good looking babies.

Jeff, thx for you input.

If i ever decided to sell them, what would i sell them as?? If an orange phase bred w/ an orage phase, would you get orange phase babies? Or babies born from parents no matter what the color (red to red, orange to orange, red to orange) will be either phase no matter what the parents look like?

Ron,
. Why use the word phase? The colors of BRBs are highly variable but it is just a continuum of various shades of red and orange and brown. How would anyone know where to draw the line that seperates one phase from another? If the buyer wants to know what the snake looks like you can email them a PIC.
