Help!! Escapee!!!!

btorgy Apr 30, 2004 06:14 AM

I am incredibly stupid, and failed to secure the lid to my Crested Gecko's tank!!! I have a male and female, and thankfully found the male right away, but the female I cannot find. They are kept in a closed room, but there is a large opening under the door! I have put kritter keepers around the room with moist towels, and small dishes of peach baby food, to hopefully attract her, but so far no luck. It is now 4:00 am, and they escaped last night (Wed). Any more suggestions? I have just spent another hour looking for her.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Beth

Beth,

Make sure you're looking up high, as well as on the floor and underneath things. Also make sure to cover any trash cans.

I've had a couple escape (due to me getting sidetracked and leaving a cage open) and I've found both of them within a week. The good thing about Cresties is that if they escape, you don't have to worry about them not being able to take the temperatures in your home.

The one in the picture was loose for three days before I found her hanging out in a fake palm tree in my reptile room (as pictured).

Anyway, don't get too stressed out about it. Just keep your eyes open when you're in the room that they escaped in. I'm sure they'll both turn up soon.

i had one escape several weeks ago and didn't know it was out for probably 3 days. the day we found out that it was out we started looking. we usually keep the reptile room door closed ( it could go under the door but that is unlikely since they climb on the walls so much.
anyways we stripped the entire room down and looked in all cages just to make sure it didn't get in with my tegu or anything.

we found it just above head height behind a bunch of board games on a shelf above the sugar gliders.
it was a long search but we found it.

just be glad that it's not a snake. atleast like anthony said geckos tend to stick to the walls and are much easier to spot.

i had about a month or two old crested escape a week after i got it. i cracked the lid to put in crickets, but started staring too much at my geckos eating and forgot to close the crack. it took me 3 or 4 days, i stripped my room apart completely 4 times in a single day. i just kept my eyes open and my lights off in the room to encourage it to come out (know how they hide/sleep in the day?) and eventually, i found it inside an empty 20 gal tank right above the one i keep it in. so i would say keep looking in the general area, hopefully youll find it.
