PetMania Apr 30, 2004 07:55 AM

What is the best selling Corn now days? If I were going to breed corn what two would be the best to get and breed? Also is there a great web site to go and see pic of the diffenert colors and types of corns. I have always had ball pythons and was looking to get in to corns and kings.

I don't think I totally have my mind wrapped around the whole hypo mess either, but I'll try to explain. If I screw up somewhere, hopefully someone will correct me.

Lavas are a totally different type of hypo than the one most people are familiar with.

As far as I know, there are 4 different types of hypos and they are all incompatable with each other (in other words, if you mated one hypo with another type hypo, all the babies would be normals het for both hypo genes).

The different types of hypos:
Hypo A
Hypo B (also called Sunkissed)
Ultra hypo
Lava

So, you asked how to make a Lava with a Hypo...you can't. To get a Lava, you have to find someone with Lavas and get one from him. Joe Pierce (Snakes Alive) is the main person selling these at this time.

What is the best selling Corn now days?

There are so many that its a matter of personal preference. The larger breeders do not necessarily rely on one type to be there best seller since corn enthusiasts vary so much with preferences. Although, lavenders, bloodreds and new forms of hypo tend to be popular now. If I had to say overall though, it has been and may always be the normal/okeetee. Everyone has one or gets one in their collection eventually. However, if you are asking in terms of which will produce the most profit, that is a different story AND I highly doubt you'll ever really turn a large profit margin.

If I were going to breed corn what two would be the best to get and breed?

AGAIN, its up to you and your own personal preferences. The majority of us keep and breed corns b/c we enjoy it.
I think sasheena already mentioned some sites, but there are lots out there devoted to displaying all corn morphs. GOOD LUCK and post pics once you decide.

I pretty much agree with Carl.

The one's that I think will be highly popular for quite a while are Bloodreds and Lavendars. Besides those two I like Caramel and Butter Motleys and the new hypo that is called Lava. Of course any animals that are combos of these above types are going to be super hot, like Lavendar Bloodreds and Ice Ghosts (homozygous Lava and Anery A).

From what I've noticed, Okeetees don't sell too well where I'm at. Maybe it's just because the quality isn't the best, but I'm not looking towards getting into them any time soon. If I ever will get a 'normal' type cornsnake, I would look into Miamis or Kisatchies.

Next additions for me (most likely):
Lavendars
Lavas (or Ice Ghosts)

butters...
thanks Amanda...they're one of my personal favorites too. I've got a killer male from Rich and this year I'll be on the lookout for a really nice female.

I think I'll wait and hold off on the Lava's until I see a few more test runs. They are certainly interesting though. I have a friend with a male corn that I am 99% certain is a Lava, but sold as a hypo I think. I'm going to pair it up with a Hypo I have from Rich. I think many lava hets were wholesaled prior to the 'lava' name and have been out there floating around in the mix for a little while. But who knows for sure! Thats half the fun!

Rich does produce some awsome butters. Here is my 02 male from Rich. Would love to see a pic of your butter sometime.

After I had asked about your butter I had just found your link to photos of your snakes. Very nice. The saddles on your butter appear to be a deeper yellow/butterscotch then mine. Very nice. Once I get a digital camera I'll have better quality photos. Take care,

Steve
