Does anyone have experience with snake hut or precision cages...?

jts2103 Jun 15, 2003 07:18 PM

I am looking to buy either a snake hut modular cage or a cage from precision caging and wanted to know if anyone has used them and what they think.
Thanks,
Jeff

What are you housing?

I have a few of the 24" Precisions. Nice cages for young boas/pythons or for adult kings/milks/corns, etc. They heat well and no worries about water spills or humidity. They are about 0.1" thick white HD Polystyrene plastic and are extremely light in weight. HDPS plastic can withstand sharp lizard claws, so for lizards they are a good choice.

I bought two cages from the Snake Hut, last year. The owner, Wes Harris, is a nice guy to deal with, and honest. The cages are great. I'd do business with him again.

I have 4 precision cages. 2 of the 24 inch cages, which arrived with no problems.

I have 1 of the 48 inch cages which, when it arrived the incandescant lights had fallen off. (the pvc pipe glue was bad I am told) and one of the door hinges was broken. I did have a long wait on a replacement door, and Lovell was able to talk me through reapplying the lights.

I went ahead and bought another 48 inch cage after getting all this mess straightened out and when it arrived the cage itself was not sealed together along the top edge of the back wall, I was lucky to notice it as if I had not a snake could have easily pushed this open and escaped. It took a little while, but with enough pvc glue I was able to fix this problem as well.

Having said all this, I still like my cages... Though I think they need to do some serious quality control over there and they could have been a little more helpful helping me to resolve the problem. It seemed like after the first time he would have made sure himself that the next order was done right, but it wasnt.

I am still wondering if I should try them again though. I bought several similar cages from herpcages.com and I really do like them better, better hinges, better seals, stiffer cages and seem like they are put together with more "precision" than Precision are.

I don't have a lot of experience with snakehut cages. I've actually never heard of them, but their cages look nice.

Have you considered Vision? Their cages are made of molded plastic. There aren't any chemical sealants used, hence a stronger more rugged cage. If you purchase a large Vision, you must use a heat panel to heat it up.

What about boaphile cages? Their cages look similar to snake hut.

Just a thought...

Thanks for all the info on precision and snake hut cages. I own two 6ft Visions and with my room being heated year round I have never had the need for a heat panel. I do like the cages but shipping them is outrageous!, which is why I was looking for something different.

Thanks again,
Jeff
