a basic dripper hardware question...

lele Apr 30, 2004 11:23 AM

I was cleaning my "lillte dripper" (ZooMed) and accidentally sent the inside stopper (not washer, but the part that gets screwed into from the outside) down the drain...oops!

Is this something I can get at HD? Or any other suggestions? Please don't tell me to make my own b/c I do that, too but I actually like the ZooMed dripper b/c it doesn't puddle, I can control the drip etc.

All I am asking is where I can get a replacement. thanks!

Is to take the whole assembly (not the dripper, but the assembly that attached to the water reservoir) to your local hardware store and see if they have a nut to fit the threading. Don't bother going to Home Depot or another similiar warehouse store- you probably will not find what you're looking for in there!

Hi Victor,

Actually I do try to support my local stores. Living in a rural area there are a lot of mom & pop businesses that have been here for decades and are somehow hanging in there even with a Wal-Mart and HD looming over the market! (I hate Wal-Mart. i refuse to shop there at all...)

Anyway, it dawned on me after I posted that "duh" it was a plastic nut and looked for one in my sink/plumbing washer stash -to no avail. So yes, i think I will visit Lamper's tomorrow - they always have stuff that HD doesn't.

thanks,

lele

they have the little adjusters to control the dripping that are on your little dripper at Home depot. they come in 2 packs, I bought that and stuck it in tea jugs, made my own drippers that I think are better than the little dripper.

Controlable like you like...and no pieces to go down the drain.

Thanks - I just didn't want the pin hole in the cup suggestions - they always puddle no matter how I do it.

I just came back from HD and got a washer. The valve needs a metric fit (which neither they nor my local hd'we store had) so I got one that is close enough and I am now testing it for leakage.

I know about the larger valves - like for big gallon jugs (sun tea, etc.) but I haven't seen them that small. What section are they in?

thanks!

They come in 2 packs, in the sprinkler section. SHOOT! I cant remember what they are called. I think its "air control valve"...its not called a dripper or anything... I'll go get a pic real quick for you.

this is what the piece looks like, the part stuck in the jug looks just like the end out of the jug. easy to adjust at the top round part, and like I said just one little piece, nothing you have to take apart, nothing to get lost.

that is the exact piece that goes in the ZooMed dripper! One end goes into the plastic container, a washer goes on that and then the nut (what I lost) holds the washer in place so it doesn't leak. How does yours not leak with nothing holding it in place on the inside??

While I was at HD I asked if they had any like it the valve and he said no! Hey, he said he only worked there part time so maybe I'll go back and give him grief He was damn good looking (nice eyes)!

HEHE I told you it looked like something simmilar. Its not a dripper though, so if you ask for a dripper they will look at you crazy, its an air thing...in the area that sprinkler system parts are in.

I poke a small hole in the plastic container and then cram the dripper part into the hole, I dont know if its the type of plastic the arizona tea comes in or if it works with all plastics but I've had no problems with leaking except one that I made the whole to big to begin with. The secrete is make the hole slightly smaller than the dripper and cram away, then give it a slight tug back out(not pulling it out just to make sure its secure). its got a few "ridges" so it seals it real well.
