A Hypothetical Question - What would happen if you bred an AFT to a Leo? Has anyone ever done it?

misswindom Apr 30, 2004 12:08 PM

I recall reading another post about it.. But I can't find it.

What would happen if you bred the 2 species to each other?

I know that you can breed a Horse and a Donkey together (2 different species) and get a Mule.

And you can breed a Lion and a Tiger to each other and get a Liger (I think that's what they decided to call it).

The offspring are always infertile, I know, because of the chromosomal differences in the parents.

So what about an AFT to a Leopard Gecko?

I really dont think the eggs would be fertil. If they would be they may be just females like the tiger fish ( i think thats the right name, its when a pike and something else mates ).

absolutely nothing, even though they are a eubleparis(sp?)spieces, they do not carry any genes used to create a hybrid, most of the time, Monitores,Iguanid speices and Cornsnakes can produce hybrids ,if you were to breed a leo to an AFT no eggs would even be produced, hell the male might not even breed to a female AFT because they don't recognize the smell of the pheromones the female AFT would produce, she'd eventually dissolve the male leos sperm and nothing at all would happen, this has been tried befor more than once with no egg production

of fertile mules and ligers! A big cat sanctuary actually had a liger female that was not spayed (b/c she was assumed infertile) who was housed with a male lion that low and behold produced a little male cub (who I believe was infertile...)! How about that! Anyway, just thought you might find that interesting! As far as the leo/aft cross...I don't think its possible...but I really couldn't tell ya!
