breeding question

crestedkyle Apr 30, 2004 01:52 PM

i have one male and two female cresties and upon introducing my male to the females, he immediately tried to mount both females within the span of 5 minutes. i watched to see if everything was o.k since this was the first intro, but it looked pretty rough and it looked like the females were trying in every way possible to get away from the male. at times there were some very loud noises coming from both animals. i know that it is commonplace for the male to bite the female's neck while trying to mate, but i'm wondering how rough is too rough?because at times it looks like he is going to rip the females skin off or bite a foot off. And how long should i leave the male in with the females before taking him out and putting him back into his own cage? i know it is stressful for the females to have have prolonged exposure to such harassment? can anybody give me any advice?

thanks in advance!

kyle

Sounds like he is doing a great job. He should calm down after he has his way with them. I usually leave my pairs together for the entire season but I know some people who just leave their males in with the females overnight. -Derek
