Just curious as to what kind of live food it will eat, taking one from a buddy and she's always fed it little pellets and I vaguely recall some one complaining that there's was eating their fish.

Pellets aren't that great nutritionally, and fish can create some problems. Most people tend to use diced earthworms (in my opinion the best food) and frozen fish foods (such as Hakari frozen blood worms, mysis shrimp, etc). You can also use white worms or grindal worms, daphnia or ghost shrimp if your animal is sized appropriately and you have access to those live feeders.
Diced earthworms though are the best staple I can recommend for an adult animal.

Hope my opinions help,

Thank you for the response Seven. I actually have another question, how do you tell the different between Pachytriton brevipes and Pachytriton labiatus or is only one available in commercial trade. The girl that's giving it to me says it's a japanese paddle-tail newt, if that helps at all, I'm going to post some pics as soon as I have the animal.

It is unlikely to be brevipes as there are very few of these in the USA but you can go to the caudata culture site off of www.caudata.org and look under the species accounts to match up the pictures.
Also live blackworms are readily accepted by most aquatic species.
