Egg Yolk? [General Reptile Q]

clickman Apr 30, 2004 05:02 PM

I was watching Emergency Vets (I watch that religiously, every weekday at five on Animal Planet, the only show I really watch) and they had what I didn't catch the name of, but it looked like some sort of anole. It had MDB, and Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald, whos good with reptiles, mentioned that for recovery a drink made of crickets and EGG YOLK be used. I never heard of anyone using egg yolk with reptiles before, and of course I'd never use it unless under vet direction, but does anyone have any info on that? Dr. Fitzgerald is credible, but I was just suprised to hear that suggested.

Does not sound right to me but what do I know. Calcium and D3 are the only treatment methods I know of.

BTW, I believe it was the same show, they had a caiman that had eaten a hot dog and bloated up like a balloon. By the time they got to the vet the inflammation was gone. The vet proceeded to medicate for worms without even doing a fecal. Why? Who knows?
Another episode, a snake had mites. The snake was given an injection to make it taste bad so the mites would not bite it.

Not much credibility from my view.

I've talked to people who do have Dr. Fitzgerald as the vet for their herps, and he does know what he's doing from what I've heard.
Dr. Fitzgerald
