Puffed out neck...

salty_g Apr 30, 2004 09:14 PM

I've had my dragon for about two years and the other day I just put her outside for the first day this season when it was warm enough. that night she slept with her head raised and neck puffed out. In the morning I woke up to her shaking like she had seen another dragon and was mad. Her neck has been puffed out for two days and she sleeps with her head held up. Any idea anyone.......??!!??
thanx

Seriously though, she's probably just feeling her oats. My guy was a little crazy the first time he got out in the Spring air this year.....

Is she still eating OK? I'd just wonder if maybe she ingested something that she can't swallow or digest properly.

If she stays puffed up all day and sleeps with her head up every night, I'd be a little worried myself.

Shaking like it'd seen another dragon? None of mine shake when the see others, they go nuts trying to get to them, but never shake.
Is the beard still puffed while sleeping? If so, it may be edema.

not sure what edema is...?

edema is swelling due to water retention.
I've read that this can happen in the throat area due to Vitamin a toxicity (I'm not saying this is the problem).
It just reminded me of it when I read your post.
The danger of vitamin A toxicity comes from over using supplements with active vitamin A or consuming animal source meats (red meat).

She's still eating so i dont see it being a swallowing problem, but she has been eating less and her neck isn't puffed out as much anymore. As for the shaking thing, she only did it the one night that i brought her in from outside...so i maybe/hopefully this is nothing, just had me a little worried

anyways thanks for the input, I'll watch her over the next couple days to see if anything changes.
