Hogg with a pushed up bump on his nose....question...

the_reptilian Apr 30, 2004 10:39 PM

Sorry, not a very good picture, but you can see that this little guy pushed on his cage a bit when the breeder had him raising a bump on his nose. I am wondering if the bump will total go away or always be noticeable?

I have a hogg male that actually caused a bump on his nose by trying to escape his temperary home when I first picked him up.. It lasted about 3-4 months and finally disappeared.. So I would say unless it is a severe bump it should disappear..

if it doesn't go away it is an abcess. Then it must be drained and antibiotic treatment is recommended.

How quickly should a nose rub clear up if the snake has stopped trying to get out of the cage? I've heard people say it takes a few sheds.. should the little bit of swelling go down quicker than the time for a few sheds?

thanks,
Patrick

This type of lump/swelling can also be caused by a fungus in the snake's nasal passages. This happens often as a result of raising the animal in a sweaterbox with inadequate ventilation. If this is the case, keeping the snakes enclosure slightly warmer than normal with plenty of(if not excessive)ventilation will eventually clear up the problem.
