Grrrr, once again I am very frustrated with my enclosure situation

lizzylizard May 01, 2004 02:58 AM

I just got a quote on a custom built enclosure. The price is twice as much as I was expecting. I really need to figure something out, fast. Right now they are all in a low 15 gallon. They seem to be getting along ok right now, so I'm not to stressed, but I still want to separate them. Originally I was going to move them into my 33 gallon when they get older. I wish I could just put glass dividers into my 33 now, but I don't think it will be big enough. The 33 is 36"L 12"D 18"H. That would mean each geckos enclosure would only be 12"L 12" 18"H. Would this be big enough if I layered them, so they would have more walking space?

I'm really not looking forward to all the extra dough I'm going to be dishing out on these little guys. I know I could just put them each in there own enclosure, but my house is so cluttered with tanks as it is. I'm all out of space that does not have direct sunlight.

12"x12" is really only good for say two babies imo. But, once you go beyond two, you will have to worry about having enough space for hides and a water dish and humid hide... I'd say get a sterilite sweater box or something. At least something a tad larger than 12"x12".

It would only be for one gecko. I want to section off me 33 gallon because they are not getting along. The floor space on each side is 12 x 12.

Right now they are babies. Do you think it would be big enough if I put an extra tile layer in each?

It would be big enough as long as you dont cut any more of their 12" by 12" away.

i mean as long as they are always having the 12 inches by 12 inches of space they should be fine until they are adults. When you are asking about if you could put in an extra layer of tile. are you meaning will the tank be high enough?

Yes the tank is 18 inches high. I know the added hight is unnecessary but it's all I've got for now.

You can make ramps and second floors for them, that'll add more crawl space. i've done it out of Bristo board and a glue gun.

If you're really worried about space you could always try getting a rack for them. Im not a huge fan of them personally but it'll be cheap and save you room.

Good luck

lizzylizard May 01, 2004 10:40 PM

I just bought a bunch of tile to make different levels for them. Hopefully it works. I not big on they way racks look either. If I had hundreds of the little guys I would consider them, but not for my three little ones. It sounds bad but I want them to be on display. I like being able to check them out all the time.

OT, I just bought another betta, this is number 7, they are cluttering up my little house. I have to stop, lol, I don't think I ever will.
