Problem?

Anax May 01, 2004 07:41 PM

hi, new member to the forums, and just got me crestie today :D

just wondering, ever since i put him into the tank, hes not moved alot. at first i put him on the ground in the middle (this was during the afternoon) and he just sat there. so i picked him up and put him on one of the climbing branches, but still no sign of movement.

could he be sick? yet when i hold him, he seems adventurous enough; he jumps and climbs everywhere. Can anyone help me on this?

thanks

ps. the viv is 15' 15' 18' and has paper towel as substrate, if this helps. also thrwn in a few dusted crickets, but no interest

Hes had a rough couple of days. Transported to whatever retailer probally in a cramped lil dish and bounced around. At the pet shop Put into a cage that may or may not have been right for him(many shops dont offer a place to hide )Had his tank banged on by every curious kid ,Then yanked from that cage brought home and dropped into another strange place. And durng a time he usually sleeps ,He would probally like to hide but how does he know there isnt something waiting to eat him as soon as he moves?
Just let him sit with his new cage in a darkened quiet part of the house .He will get used to his surroundings and in no time at all find favorite hiding spots. Try to minimalize handling him for a few days as well.

Thanks

i think hes a bit more chilled out now. hes moving a couple inches an hour, i guess thats something

he might have even eaten a few crickets during the night

wonder how many other people have this problem

This is not a "problem" at all... its just basically the same thing with every new animal someone gets, they are very precautious of their surroundings. Handling him could only stress him out more and cause him to get sick, wait until he can get relaxed - its just the first day of him being home

this happened to me too. mine just sat there for a few days. he only ate baby food the first week or so i had him. then i put a cricket up to his mouth with my fingers and he ate it. i did that a few times then he started hunting them himself in his cage. you might want to try that once he get use to his environment.

:'( found him dead this morning.

i left him alone to get used to his environment, and never would have thought he would die.

i am contacting the pet shop at the moment to arrange something. should i get a refund or get another crestie? seeing as tho, in retrospect, the gecko was actually ill

I'm sorry to hear it.

If it was me, I'd try to get a refund, then find a local breeder to buy from directly. Or if not that, buy from a reputable breeder online.
