Yellow around eyes?

shyne May 01, 2004 08:24 PM

My BD has really yellow eyes (the area around his eyes) .... I don't have a UVB bulb, only UVA. Could this be from lack of UVB?

I've been meaning to get him a UVB bulb but they're just so expensive, with the fixture included and everything.. I heard that UVB can change the color of their skin, is this true? Cuz my bd's skin color is nothing great at all =/

Here's a pic:

UVB is essential to your BD's life not just color so if the cost of a bulb is too much please consider giving him up to someone who is willing to foot the cost of ownership. If you don't supply UVB his bones will basically start dissolving and cause great pain and eventually deformity.

As far as eye color goes it varies from dragon to dragon much like humans. One of mine has yellow/gold eyes and the other has brown eyes.

Yeah, I know it is, and I am planning on getting a bulb soon. It's just taking longer than hoped for.

But is the yellow around his eyes what that has to do with? lack of UVB? or is that normal?

instead of UVB and claim that it's just as healthy for them. I do both and I think that's probably what most people do. You need to be doing at least one of these or you put your beardie at risk of bone disease (search MBD in this forum). You can buy calcium powder that has D3 in it so you just dust live prey or salads normally.

Lots of beardies have yellow around the eyes...here's mine.

I believe UVB is essential. You can supplement w/D3, but if you are not doing either, I would give him to a home where they can afford him the proper care and setup. I don't think hoods and strip lights are too expensive, you can find alot of places online that offer them at very reasonable prices. As far as the yellow around the eyes, my Dino has them also:

ok, thanks for that. I feel relieved now, haha.

I do dust all of my beardie's food with calcium. Though I am still going to get the UVB.

DOES say it contains D3. If not, get some that does! Then, save up for a UVB tube light and fixture. I use an 18"er and a mercury vapor bulb, plus D3, just to be on the safe side.
