Can Someone Identify?

jjl May 01, 2004 09:30 PM

I am a snake breeder and just recently acquired this Bearded Dragon from someone that was moving. I've never gotten into these before, but when I saw it I decided to keep it. I would like to get a male for her, but I was wondering if she is just a normal color phase or is something else. She is about 18" long. I have read lots about the care of these, but nothing on the breeding. Any help would be appreciated.

She's beautiful! Looks almost identical to my male, Smeagol. She is definately not a normal phase, they are more brown or grey. I would say she is most likely some sort of Sandfire or yellow phase cross, but it is impossible to say for sure unless you can find out what the parents were. By the way congrats on becoming a BD owner, they are great.

If you do get a male for her to breed with, they will need seperate enclosures. Males get way to frisky and laying clutch after clutch of eggs due to overbreeding can and will be a health problem for the female. By keeping them in their own enclosures, you can determine when breeding takes place.
