Kelly, Scott Michaels says Hello

eunectes4 May 01, 2004 11:02 PM

I went to the lee watson swap today to get a probe set from scott, sell a ball python, and get some more opion from mark petros (who wanted the ball if it was female but i didnt think it was but i have been surprie=sed after probing so we were going to double check) on the sex of my anaconda (he was also going to probe). Mark wasn't there so I talked to scott micheals, i have talked to him a number of times and gathered he is a pretty intelligent guy. I told him how you were telling me how to spur sex over the kingsnake forum and he said he knows you pretty well and to tell you hello on here. He probed my anaconda for me and He came up with female every time and he gave it his all to try and work it in. I am pretty confident this is a female from my spur sexing and his probing now. thanks again kelly and scott. Hopefully i can get a male soon ( i might work in atlantic city for about 2 months and my sister is careing for my snakes and sugar gliders so i dont want to add a new snake i dont know to have her take that on). By the way to all...some guy at the show had cb greens from a gravid import and they were under 18 inches and tiny girth..smallest greens i have ever seen.

If you read this for some reason mark..the snake was male but if i get any females you will get them.

Thanks for passing on the message. I have known Scott for many years, but it has been a while since I have spoken with him. He has been working with snakes for around 30 years and is very knowledgeable and respected on the subject. I particularly remember that he was producing beautiful pure Indian pythons and Suriname redtails starting back in the 80's, but I don't know if he is currently working with them. Please tell him hello for me the next time you see him. Thanks,

Kelly

I will deffinitely tell him you said hello, as I did with him. He is one of the few people I will listen too at the Lee Watson shows, trust is pretty hard to come by there...but there are a few great people. I learned to probe snakes a while back from people who learned from him. When he probed my anaconda and I got a nice set from him, he added some new tips and went into a lot of detail on why not to use lubricants and their chemical properties. Definitely a knowledgable and respected guy. I have talked to him quite a few times and he has helped me with snake problems that have baffled the rest of the world. He was surprised though at what I told him you said about spur sexing and was not aware of that. It is kind of cool how the learning circle works. Nice to add something for people who are always giving me knowledge.

Glad to hear that you passed on the information for others to use. When I first started telling people about sexing newborn greens by the spurs, they said it was not possible. They didn't realize that under the proper magnification, the subtle differences in the spurs of young males and females were apparent even in newborns. It's a great non-invasive technique that is 100% accurate once you get experience with it and understand what to look for. Thanks again,

Kelly

Sorry i didnt make the show, but i wasnt feeling well on Saturday. Glad that the ball was a male, it would have really made me sick to have missed getting a big female.Anyway, i thought you werent going to the show because you had to study for finals??????? Best wishes, Mark Petros

I told you mark that I don't care much for studying so I would most likely show ; ) Some guy looked at it and asked me what I wanted for it and when I told him you asked about it and I was giving you first chance (I didnt know you werent there yet..it was right when we walked in) he just turned around and didnt say a word and walked away angry...this is what I am talking about with finding a trusty person at the Lee Watson shows. It was a pretty descent sized male too and shed twice this month..thats why I thought it could be female despite its thinner body for its length..just might have been underfed for the last few years. I don't know if you know Sarah Hetland and her boyfriend Ronny, they breed a ton of stuff and they have the snake now and desperately needed a male. So at least someone has it that will appreciate it. Sorry it wasnt female but You know I come across big ball pythons people don't want from time to time so you will be the first to know.
