MR_ANACONDA28 May 01, 2004 11:29 PM

She has been in the corner like this all afternoon. Silly girl. Arik, I live in northwest Indiana.

I lived in a tiny little town called Kouts, IN. A little south of valpraiso. I lived there for about 2 years. Grew up in IA. Now I live in Texas.
Take a temp reading by her head and see if there's any difference (hotter or colder) than on the floor. Might be nothing but could be something.

I have taken her temps all over that cage, on that side she is around 92F and on the other side I have seen her as low as 78F. I think she is just crazy, dfr said his snakes would do this sometimes. He called it stargazing.

I hope dfr wasn't referring to stargazing syndrome. That is a very serious neurological disorder in snakes caused by a deficiency in vitamin A,B & E. It's very hard to treat once symptoms get severe enough to notice. I had a retic once that had it. Snakes that have it don't look normal at all, they're body is contorted on it's side somewhat with they're head twisted sideways so it appears as though they're looking at the sky. Hence the name.
Your snake doesn't look like that at all. It looks like it's bored and just looking around for something to do.lol

` Sometimes they get restless, for no reason you can see easily, sometimes for no apparent reason at all.
` I have seen many Anacondas, and other South & Central American Boids, try to escape high floor temperatures, above 85 degrees. I give mine plenty of access to low 70s, at floor level. I go no higher than mid/high 80s. I find them in the cooler areas more often than in the warm areas, even when digesting. This does not apply to gravid females.
` To me, stargazing is lying on the floor, or on another secure perch, with the first 5 to 20 % of body length elevated, and usually very still. Short, rapid tongue flicks during this behavior usually means they're hungry. In my experience, stargazing does not necessarily indicate a problem.
` My snakes are all three weeks past feeding time, because I'm moving and I want them empty for the move. Several of them are stargazing. When I let them out, they hunt all over the house. Interestingly, many of them got very agitated last night when I brought home Chinese food! They behaved much the same way as they do when I'm thawing their food. It must have been the crispy roast duck.
` The owner of the Chinese restaurant says he'd like to try Anaconda in black bean garlic sauce. He assures me that Python cooked that way is delicious!!

` Two hungry Anacondas.
