Questions on Iggy injury.............

Iguanamom May 02, 2004 09:46 AM

Hi everyone. A couple days ago Ozzy cut his toe. What happend, i think anyway, is he was trying to escape and got his toe under the edge of the plexi glass, which i didnt think he could do, but he has a cut on his toe now. I put on some Neosporin and it looks a little better, but was wondering what to look for, as far as infection. I mean in a human its obvious, wasnt sure on a lizard. I guess like swelling or oozing? Which im not noticing thankfully. I was so upset when i seen it, made me realize how attached i am to this lizard. And I yelled at hubby cause he didnt do the cage like i wanted in the first place. So we went to Menards yesterday for supplies to redo the cage doors, which is where I think he got hurt. Then hubby had to ask the question, so how much money do we have wrapped up in this lizard and his cage? I plead the fifth. lol Wouldnt even want to venture a guess if you include the lights and fixtures. But anyway, just wondered what i should look for as far as infection goes and how long should it take to heal? Thanks Tami

Watch for swelling, oozing, tenderness and necrotic (black) tissue. Soak in warm water, dry thoroughly and then apply Neosporin...daily for about a week should take care of it.

Thanks for the advice. Well so far he doesnt have any of those symptoms, and it doesnt seem to bother him at all, he is still very active and using it fine. And we will try for a bath today, umm ozzy doesnt like baths much, so this should be intersting. lol Thanks again. Tami
