New and have a few questions

johnlian May 02, 2004 09:57 AM

I just purchased a Corn Snake from a local pet store. The worker told me to get indoor-outdoor carpet from Home Depot. So we did we have set up the tank (55 Gallons) with the carpet and rock etc, but the snake always goes under the carpet.

So my question is do you think the carpet is ruff for the snake and that why he is going under the carpet.

Also we do have a few different other hinding places for him...

Thank you

Hi, congrats on your new corn. You may want to try and use some aspen for the bedding. It will probably still burrow under but they seem to do it a lot more with the carpet. The carpet creats a nice little cave for them when they go under. What kind a rock do you have in the cage. If its a heat rock you will want to remove it as it is not highly recommended for snakes and can cause burns. How old/big is your corn. If its just a little guy a 55 gallon tank may be a little big for it. As long as you have some hides and water thats about all you need. Good luck. Hope this helped some.

No I bought some rocks and I have a under the tank heater with a heat lamp. I many hinding spots for the corn. As the corn is about 11"-12" long.

The only thing I might suggest is to check the temps in the cage. You might be fine with just the UTH. Sometimes a little snake might not feel as safe in an area as big as he has. Im sure he'll be fine but its something to consider. Good luck.
