froggystyle34 May 02, 2004 10:47 AM

is it beneficail to have belly heat for a beardie? i have read about 80 different care sheets and three books and they all say different things. i know they do not sense heat under there belly but can it hurt to have a heat pad on the basking side? thanks

p.s. i ask cause i am getting an adult beardie in a couple of weeks and i want to know how to take care of the little guy

The next time the shuttle lands, lets all get dressed up in ape suits and charge at the astronaughts yelling and ranting. That way they can try to figure out where they took a wrong turn.

I haven't seen a need for a heating pad, my overhead light keeps the cage hot enough. I guess if you had trouble keeping the cool end of the cage in the 80's you might need one, but now that it is summer that really isn't a concern for me.

I don't know if it would be beneficial, but the way you are saying it as long as it doesn't get too hot I don't see where it would be harmful as a supplemental heat source. Just keep in mind they do need to get their basking heat from above.
